D30 – Good Hope

Today we went to the Cape of Good Hope.

On our way, we took the spectacular Chapman’s Peak Drive linking Hout Bay to Noordhoek.

We made a stop at Boulders beach to have a look at one of the 2 mainland colonies of African penguins (also known as the Jackass penguins for their donkey-like bray). The total population fell to 55000 in 2010 (4 million in the 19th century) . If this decline is not halted, the African penguin is expected to be extinct within 15 years…

We finally entered the Cape of Good Hope nature reserve and headed up to the lighthouse at the Cape Point. From here, we could observe the 2 oceans mixing.

Be careful, Baboons are WILD animals, that also like public transportation.

On our way back, we made a stop at Muinzenberg beach. This surf beach is famous for its row of colourfully painted Victorian bathing chalets.
